For the first time you can build an entire global empire, with up to fifty factions available, from the British and French to American revolutionaries. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War 2
Dawn is about to break on a whole new style of wargame, as you coach a team of hardened Space Marines through gaming's toughest Sci-Fi universe. Although this is still a real-time strategy game, the story campaign is now focused on controlling smaller squads of highly specialised units, instead of just anonymous hordes of cannon fodder soldiers. There's no base-building or resource management, as you dictate the tactics on the ground at the speed of an action game. Each character and vehicle can be upgraded with weapons and items left by defeated enemies, adding in new role-playing elements as well. For those looking for a more traditional approach, the multiplayer and skirmish modes add all the old features back in - giving you the best of both worlds. With stunning graphics and an authentic Warhammer 40,000 storyline this revolutionises the idea of PC strategy games for both new players and old.

Tom Clancy's: Hawx
You've often relied on them in other Tom Clancy games, but for the first time you get to play as an advanced fighter pilot in the most exciting combat flight sim of this generation. Taking the role of a U.S. pilot the game's plot contains elements from both Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 and EndWar as you end up defending the United States from corporate mercenaries. Although it features plenty of realistically modelled aircraft and other military vehicles this is an accessible, fast paced arcade action game - not a stuffy simulator. You'll engage dozen of bogeys at a time and never have to worry about running out of missiles, let alone targets. The unique Enhanced Reality System (ERS) allows you to customise the difficultly level however you want, with a set of pilot assists that let you give control of things like radar, damage control and anti-stall measures to the computer. Or you can simply take control of everything yourself and prove yourself the real top gun.

The Sims 3
The game that first opened up the world of video games to a wider audience is back, going beyond being just a virtual dollhouse to a complete interactive neighbourhood. The basic concept is still the same though, as you create your own computerised family and help (or hinder) them in achieving their lifetime dreams. Instead of just dealing with one house at a time though, your whole sims town is part of one continuous map, with neighbours going about their business independently. Likewise your own family can explore at will and interact with any and all buildings and people. Once fully grown a sim can have up to 60 personality traits - from loner to flirt - all of which you can influence via their environment and the people they interact with. However you want to play and whatever you want to do it's easier than ever to create your own virtual soap opera.
